Those that work in the social worker field follow a strict code of ethics to assure that they are truly helping change and make better the social culture in which they are engaged. Social workers take on many different roles in each community that they serve from hospitals to Department of Corrections to community based programs to help those in need.  Funding for these positions have always been on the bubble because the direct impact that they have is tough to measure when you look at the economic value. As our economy continues to show signs of slowing the role of the social worker will become more critical and the government understands and there are bills that have recently been passed to provide additional funding. Those that are looking to serve their community in this capacity need to have their certification and the tests are standardized by ASWB.
