Now that the promotion has begun we decided to check the newest digital radio offerings. Choosing a new digital radio today is like picking out one of the first High Definition TV’s. The HD Radio Receiver units are now becoming more popular and you are starting to see them become standard equipment in some cars. Plus more of the local radio stations are starting to broadcast in HD and in our local market that accounts for 5 of the top 10 stations. Of course larger markets like New York High Definition Radio stations will have more of a selection at the moment, but since HD radio is free and all you need is the HD tuner in your car this will be more attractive to most people over satellite.

Now there is a new class of digital HD radios offer features called Song Tagging or iTunes Tagging that allow to tag a song you hear on the radio and tag it to be downloaded later yo your iPod. The new JVC KD-HDR20 with iPod dock with iTunes Tagging allows you to simply tag a song while you are listening to be able to download later via iTunes. Having a laptop now is just as common in most homes as a PC. The ability to have your laptop with when you travel or just to carry around the house in order to get online and chat with your Facebook friends or get work done has become a part of everyday life. While they have definitely come down in price most decent laptops will cost between $500-$900. Most of us have the laptop warranty from the manufacturer which mainly covers any electronic or parts failure that may occur within a year. After that period you will need to purchase the extended laptop warranty which in some cases can cover you up to 5 additional years. Depending on the value of your laptop that cost can vary substantially. What a warranty will not cover and where many people find themselves in a bind is if you accidentally drop your laptop or there is liquid spills or theft.
That is why having a small insurance plan on your laptop makes a lot of sense. At the Worth Ave Group that specialize in insuring laptops and electronics against theft, drops, and other hazards. For a small fee per year starting at around $40 you can have added piece of mind that while you are traveling with your laptop or digital camera you can be sure that it will be protected should you happen to accidentally drop it or spill your triple, Venti, iced mocha while chatting with your friends.

I was just reading an article that stated each year there are millions of files, pictures, and important documents lost each year due to hardware failures and malicious viruses on consumers PCs. It was even more astonishing that most people that they polled for the story had never thought of backing up their data or pictures or worse yet did not know how. In some cases it can be a complicated task to back up the pictures and documents that you want so many people will just leave it alone.

Thanks to companies like iDrive Sync consumers can now easily backup their data and have it backed up automatically based on the time frame you set. With their Online Sync solutions you can create a free account that will allow you to backup up to 2 GB or for just $4.95 per month you can have an unlimited storage and backup. I created an account to give it a spin and it took a total of about 5 minutes to set up the account and download the installer to then start my backup. If you can drag and drop you can store and save your data. The best part is that you are creating backups that can be share with up to five other computers so that if you have multiple computers and laptops you can keep them all up to date. The other benefit is that you are not creating multiple CD/DVD’s which may get lost or scratched and then making your backups unusable. So if you are one who has never created a backup of your favorite photos or documents give them a try and take advantage of the free account and see for yourself.

Protect your iPhone

iphoneWhen the most recent iPhone 3Gs was released I had to take a look at the new speed and find out if it was worth upgrading my current iPhone. After playing with the device I was sure that this was my next phone. I am not usually one to jump on the technology that has been just released but I must say the features and ease of use of this phone is incredible. My other question was since this is supposed to be internet friendly and we are able to watch YouTube videos how much extra were the services going to be. Luckily they have thought this part through and the iPhone has it’s own plans with unlimited web and email. The plans are comparable to their standard plans with just a few less minutes. But with their roll over minutes and the fact that everyone who I call that is on the AT&T network don’t count towards my minutes this make for a great buy.
I was even considering iPhone Insurance because I know several friends that have ended the life of their new iPhone through the washer, or their kids dropping them while they were playing a game. My iPhone has become such an integral part of my social networking and blogging that I need to know that I can have additional protection against damage not usually covered by Apple Care. I found a great product comparison of various insurance options that you can purchase to protect your iPhone from spills, drops, and theft. Because of the popularity of the iPhone they have become a prime target of tech thieves that grab these high tech gadgets and then resell them on the grey market. With companies like the Worth Ave Group that also offer Laptop Insurance you can protect your iPhone. With a small deductible and a yearly cost starting at $63 you can insure your iPhone that will provide coverage that not many other companies are willing to provide. Here is an example of the typical cost to insure your iPhone:

$55 for 8GB
$63 for 16GB
$69 for 16GB 3GS
$79 for 32GB 3GS

These are yearly insurance costs with a $50 deductible. And yes they cover theft, spills, fire, and vandalism. So take a look at their options for your high tech gear to give you a piece of mind.

Why So Much Fire Damage?

I’m amazed to see all the homes and land that is now burning out in Southern California. All the technology that we have these days, you would think we would have a better way to put out these fires. When looking at a map of San Diego you see it situated in Southern California and a big piece of blue stuff out from it. That big blue thing you see is water! It’s the Pacific Ocean and why can’t we find some way to get that blue on over to the fires around San Diego?

I don’t have the answers, but you would think if we can send a man to space, cure all kinds of sickness, and can float a big carrier on the water, that we could find some type of pumping station, to get that water from the Pacific Ocean on the fires in California. I could understand better if these fires were in Kansas and they were having trouble with them there. It just doesn’t make sense when you see all that water right near my and we don’t have the technology to transport it to those hot spots in all these fires we are seeing on television. I do wish all the folks in California the best and my heart goes out to all of you. I couldn’t imagine by house burning down to the ground and losing everything inside of it. I just wish that we could spend a little more money on fire saving things, than sending another man to the moon or having something sent to Mars.
